“Over the past ten years, PORR has realised numerous key railway projects for PKP PLK S.A. This tender award underlines the successful cooperation of everyone involved as well as our far-reaching expertise in the infrastructure sector. This technically demanding mega-project will add significant value to the backdrop for goods transport in this metropolitan region,” said PORR CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss.
The contract involves the design and build of the 23km-long, two-track section of rail line No. 131, which is part of the pan-European AGTC network and the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). Within the three-and-a-half-year construction period, PORR S.A. will realise a total of 77 kilometres of rail track, 200 sets of points, 15 station platforms, 66 engineering structures, the control command and signalling, as well as the catenary.
A 360° approach to modernisation
The modernisation of the C-E 65 rail corridor between Chorzów Batory and Zduńska Wola Karsznice will bring equal benefits for the transport of both goods and people. The works to modernise different sections on the route, which links the Polish regions of Śląskie and Łódzkie, will also deliver increased safety, reduced environmental impact of rail traffic and better disabled access for those with limited mobility.
